Tropideco

Tropideco (not to be confused by the colors with Frutiger Aero) is an aesthetic that focuses on the beaches of the Caribbean in the time period between the 1990's and the early 2000's.

Tropideco makes use of the tiki culture, which is then blended with the tropical environments and resort decorations. There's a feeling of fake to all of this, though, as the use of artificial foliage (common in tropical resorts back in the day) is mixed with very saturated colors to make it all feel synthetic and almost as if you had stepped into a real-life barbie set.

What feels special to me about this combination is the "Truman Show" vibe it gives off. You can clearly see two very different worlds trying to coexist: One in which you came to have fun and relax, and one in which nothing is real. It could all very well be a movie set. Also, where's everyone? Have they left already? Was there anyone here to begin with?

One example I love to use when explaining this aesthetic is the first live action Scooby Doo Movie. It takes place in Spooky Island (Image 1) and it checks the list for every single characteristic present. There is tiki culture, island in the middle of nowhere, saturated colors, tropical feeling. If you like this aesthetic, watch this movie. You won't regret it.
